For 250 years, the Riedel family has been creating high quality crystal and
glassware. More than 30 years ago, Claus Riedel discovered that design elements
such as the shape and size of the bowl, and diameter of the rim, would affect
the bouquet and flavour of the wine, and set about creating specific glasses for
each wine variety.
This decanter is designed to further your enjoyment of your wine. The Amadeo
Lyra is a design introduced to celebrate Riedel's 250th birthday, and also to
honour another of Austria's famous products, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with the
name Amadeo and the spectacular shape, which mimics the musical instrument, the
lyre. This shape is extremely difficult to make, and there is only one man in
Austria who can blow this decanter from the crystal, hence its rarity (and price
tag). It is sure to be a collector's item.
Decanting older wines moments before serving increases their clarity and
brilliance, by reducing sediment. Younger wines benefit from decanting a few
hours before serving, which allows them to mature in flavour and bouquet.
