The name Koonara comes from the name the Reschke family property in Australia's most famous wine region, Coonawarra, which produces low yield, high quality wines, under the capable watch of head winemaker Peter Douglas (ex Wynns). Because only a small number of cases of each vintage are made, and they are only available through selected outlets, Koonara wines are a rare treat.
Ambriel is the angel of communication, and guides us to truth and clarity. Ambriel is also considered to be an angel of general protection, and presides over the sun sign of Gemini and the month of May.
The Ambriel's Gift Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 has been aged 18 months in French & American Oak barrels, developing into a rich chocolate Cabernet, full of deep mulberries and blackberries, finishing with a long blackcurrant and cream palate.
"A debut beauty, chock full of flavour, but of excellent balance." Windsor Dobbin
Winemaker's Notes: The vineyard's crop has always been very low –- usually two tonnes or less. From this small crop we get intense flavoured grapes, because the vine is working to develop the flavour in a smaller number of bunches. Experts say 95% of a good wine is made in the vineyard, and this wine - with its huge depth of flavours bursting with chocolate coated blackberries - is proof of this.
