The name Koonara comes from the name the Reschke family property in Australia's most famous wine region, Coonawarra, which produces low yield, high quality wines, under the capable watch of head winemaker Peter Douglas (ex Wynns). Because only a small number of cases of each vintage are made, and they are only available through selected outlets, Koonara wines are a rare treat.
Cupra is the angel of Sunlight. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2004 Vintage saw 3 tonnes per acre came of this vineyard, with very little water, keeping the berries small.
This wine has been in French Oak barrels for 12 months, displaying a fantastic vanilla, chocolate and blackberries nose, with a molasses and blackcurrant finish. This wine has a smooth sweetness, yet has no residual sugar, the mark of a premium quality wine. A screwcap on this wine means it will still age, but have no chance of any cork taint.
