<>The name Koonara comes from the name the Reschke family property in Australia's most famous wine region, Coonawarra, which produces low yield, high quality wines, under the capable watch of head winemaker Peter Douglas (ex Wynns). Because only a small number of cases of each vintage are made, and they are only available through selected outlets, Koonara wines are a rare treat.
The Sofiel's Gift Riesling 2005 is a multiple medal winner:
- Gold Medal, Melbourne Wine Show
- Gold Medal, Cool Climate Wine Awards
- Gold Medal, Cowra Wine Show
- Gold Medal, Hyatt International Riesling Challenge
- Bronze Medal, Limestone Coast Wine Show
Winemaker's Comments: Early harvest, minimal skin contact, the use of free run juice only and a hint of sweetness by stopping the ferment with 6.0 grams of sugar remaining have all given a finely structured, soft dry perfumed wine. It is now a great aperitif or a perfect match for seafood (especially shellfish) and Asian salads.
The natural crispness will see this wine cellar extremely well, developing toasty characters and creaminess in the structure adding to its complexity over the next 3 – 5 years.
